On 9 July 2018, The London School of Public Relations – Jakarta (LSPR) held the “Empowering Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia” studium generale at Prof. Dr. Djajusman Auditorium and Performance Hall. This event was opened by the speech of Mrs. Prita Kemal Gani, MBA, MCIPR, APR. Prof. Dr. Yohana Susana Yembise, Dip. Apling, MA as the Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection became the keynote speaker. She was talking about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). And her talks about Gender equality became the primary focus in SDG’s number 5.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a program of the United Nations which has 17 goals for the social prosperity and the development of the country. Gender equality is an important key to the sustainable development of Indonesia. The UN target is to achieve the desired level of development by 2030 via younger generation.
The main addressed issue was to provide an opportunity for women to be more integrated into the working community. One of the main factors that become an obstacle in Indonesia is the Indonesian culture of perceiving women as housewives.
Additionally, Hendra Manurung, MA, and Rudi Sukandar, Ph.D., also described the millennial generation who should contribute into SDGs as well. (Citra/Namira)
