Jakarta – LSPR Community Services, Research and Publication Department held a Community Services Webinar Series 4 about “Learning from Home for Special Kids During the Pandemic” on Friday, 5 June 2020. Why did they bring up this topic? It is because that LSPR concerns about the importance of education communication, especially for inclusive education. During this webinar, they talked about the importance of the role of teachers, parents, and tutor, to always be creative in giving the form of online learning to these special kids.

The speakers are Dr. Chrisdina Wempi, as the Head of London of School Beyond Academy (LSBA) and Mrs. Hersinta from parent’s point of view, she also did research about this topic (autism). This webinar is attended by the public, teachers, therapist, and parents with special kids. Speaking of The New Normal, Dr. Chrisdina said that it is very hard to adjust because there have been no modules regarding today’s condition before. So many challenges to take, and as we know that autistic has a different metabolism, so it is so risky for them to be in the new normal during COVID-19 pandemic. But, through this webinar, so many thoughts were shared, from parents, teachers, and those who put a lot of concern for autism about how to find the best lecture for these special kids.

Also as mentioned by Mrs. Hersinta, for the parents and teachers of autistic is like “everyday is an adventure”. They must find out how to coordinate (between the teachers and parents) with only using a digital platform and find the easiest and the most efficient way to make these kids follow the lecture in unusual conditions. In fact, we can use their interests and hobbies. Also, it is way easier for the teachers to give the example tutorial video for the lessons through Youtube platform. It is because most of the parents are more familiar using youtube than any other digital platforms.
