[UPDATE] LPKW – LPSR Webinar “Media: Bikin Gaduh Atau Mencerahkan”

Jakarta –  5 June 2020, LSPR Journalist Competency Test Institute (LPKW-LPSR), held a webinar with the theme “Media : Bikin Gaduh Atau Mencerahkan?”. Our Special speakers in this Webinar were, Head of Press Research, Data Collection & Ratification, Mr. Ahmad Jauhar,  Head of Independent Journalist Alliance (AJI), Mr. Abdul Manan, and our third special speaker were, Assessor of LSPR Journalist Competency Test Institute (LPKW-LSPR) whose also a Lecturer in LSPR, Mr. Akhmad Edhy Aruman. This Webinar was moderated by Assessor of LSPR Journalist Competency Test Institute and LSPR Lecturer, Mrs. Martha W. Silaban.

There were six points discussed by our special speakers. First, how journalists must be fearless to convey the truth and facts when conducting news coverage investigation. And then, how journalists must be bold in delivering critics to the government or other parties that according to the public’s perspective were disturbing the journey of democracy. For the third point, institution revamping which means that the press must meet the standard issued by the Press Board.

Next, it is allowed for the press to  choose sides but it must be according to the Journalistic Code of Conduct that Press also accommodated in Press Regulations. The fifth point was discussion about how the mainstream media tackled hoaxes that spread around in mass media, blogs, and social media that made people stress. For instance how Tirto.id and Tempo.co, carry out the information check and balance to make sure that the news reported is valid and is not fake news. Lastly, speakers discussed how a good journalism can lead to a good business.
