Jakarta – LSPR International Relations and Partnerships Office held their 8th Webinar Series with International University Partners with Coventry University on 9 June 2020. The webinar featured Mr. Julian Robinson, Assistant Professor & Course Director for BA (Hons) Event Management, Dr. Maharaj Vijay R, Associate Professor at Coventry University, and Dr. Fabio Carbone, Lecturer and Researcher in International Tourism Management who presented on the topic “Building Tourism and Hospitality Sector Resilience in South East Asia: Responses to Covid-19 Impacts”.
The session was moderated by Dr. Janette Maria Pinariya, M.M, Vice-Rector I at LSPR Communication & Business Institute. The LSPR Webinar Series with International University Partners aims to provide a range of high quality topics from experienced communication professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic which allows for international learning during the “Stay at Home” period.
The session began with a presentation from Mr. Julian Robinson who introduced the hospitality sector in the UK and how Covid-19 had affected it. He then continued to discuss the government’s involvement to support hospitality businesses during the pandemic, and safety measures and protocols. The presentation was then continued by Dr. Maharaj Vijay who spoke on the topic of the different disaster classifications followed by some examples of different disaster possibilities.
He then continued to discuss the international responses to disasters and pandemics, followed by the conclusion of how Indonesia can recover from this pandemic. Dr. Fabio Carbone was the last speaker to present, who discussed Covid-19 in Indonesia and sustainable development goals. He continued to discuss Tourism & Human Development in Indonesia and issues that it can encounter.
The session came to an end by sharing about what Indonesia can expect in the tourism and hospitality industry due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the socioeconomic downturn. After the presentation, participants were offered the chance to ask questions relevant to the topic discussed. A total of 67 participants joined the webinar.
