Jakarta – To give a better understanding of the concept of multilateralism during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Undergraduate Programme of International Relations Communication Studies of LSPR Communication & Business Institute held a Guest Lecture Webinar with the theme of “Challenges of Multilateralism during Pandemic.”. The activity, which had more than 120 participants consisting of students and lecturers from LSPR and external universities, was held through the Zoom platform on Friday the 9th of April 2021.
The main speaker of the webinar was Prof. Dr. Makarim Wibisono, MA-IS, MA (Indonesian Ambassador for the United Nations in 2004 – 2007), with Ms. Gracia Paramitha Ph.D. Cand (Deputy Head of Undergraduate Programme of International Relations Communication Studies) providing welcoming remarks, and Mr. Budi Riyanto (Subject Coordinator of International Public Diplomacy) as the webinar’s moderator. In her opening speech, Ms. Gracia Paramitha Ph.D. Cand provided two questions Prof. Dr. Makarim Wibisono, MA-IS, MA. The questions are “to what extent does multilateralism influence and provide global solutions?” and “how does the role of youth, especially the next generation, contribute to global problems?”.
Prof. Dr. Makarim Wibisono, MA-IS, MA, continues by providing several main points in the webinar, such as trust deficit which can be identified among state actors within the multilateral system, and that the drastic global change such as the pandemic urges each actor to integrate all issues and all sectors together. The materials given by Prof. Dr. Makarim Wibisono, MA-IS, MA, will certainly provide lecturers and students with deeper insights regarding the state of multilateralism the world is currently in. The webinar was closed off with a question and answer session which was heavily participated by lecturers including Dr. Indra Kusumawardana, M.Hub.Int (Lecturer for International Public Diplomacy) and Dra. Yuli Mumpuni Widarso (Lecturer for Hospitality and International Etiquette) and not to mention several other students from LSPR and external universitites. Last but not least, the webinar had a photo session which captures the special moment for that day.
