Jakarta – LSPR Communication and Business Institute was really pleased to get invited to join the COIL Program in collaboration with The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS), Netherlands. Friday, 19 November 2021 marked the Kick-off session for the COIL Program with the LSPR Postgraduate Students. 

THUAS has emphasised in its educational vision and mission to ensure that the education it offers is challenging, stimulating, inclusive and that every graduate who leaves THUAS leaves as a global citizen. The COVID-19 pandemic has sped up our efforts to develop and integrate COIL throughout our programmes. In close cooperation with selected partner universities we aim to ensure the best international outcomes for our students.

COIL is a teaching and learning method, which is innovative, cost-effective and enhances internationalisation at home. It is integrated into the curriculum at course level and aims to enhance the intercultural competences of students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to study abroad. COIL focuses on students collaborating internationally online in order to solve a problem together and gain a significant intercultural experience within their course of study, whether they study abroad or not.

Ms Annemieke de Korte (Johanna) the lecturer from THUAS shared “Honestly, The students are excited and a little bit scared especially the thought about making a project with other students globally, with different cultures. The last kick off session marked their meeting for the first time and it was definitely a great start together! Looking forward to the other discussion and the outcome from the students.”

Nareswari Kumaralalita, Batch 35 DCMM Major shared her experiences in the first meeting with the lectures and THUAS “It was a thrilling experience for me. At first, we were kind of afraid to communicate with them and even have a project together with them, but turns out it was a really exciting moment to exchange knowledge about each other’s countries. I really hope students at LSPR would have this kind of COIL experience in the future, it is really good to broaden the expertise not only in the communication world but also in other areas as well” 

The collaboration between LSPR and THUAS in the COIL Program which involves the lecturer from both institutions to create a collaborative project that students can work together from both universities. We do hope from the COIL Program, the students and lecturers from LSPR and The Hague able to reflect on the lessons learned experience using concrete examples and how these could be used in a future working environment.
