On November 1, 2020, the Rector of the LSPR Institute of Communication and Business officially announced a comprehensive smoke-free policy, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to the health and well-being of its academic community. This initiative applies to all community members, including students, faculty, and administrative staff. The decision to implement a smoke-free campus is grounded in several key considerations: the significant health risks associated with tobacco use, as cigarettes and other tobacco products are highly addictive and pose severe dangers to individuals, making it essential to protect the well-being of the LSPR community; the fundamental right of every member of the academic community to breathe clean and healthy air, which necessitates raising awareness and fostering collective action to mitigate the harmful effects of smoking; and the legal support for this initiative, as it aligns with various Indonesian laws and regulations, including Law No. 14 of 2005 on Teachers and Lecturers, Law No. 36 of 2009 on Health, Government Regulation No. 81 of 1999 concerning Tobacco Control, and Government Regulation No. 109 of 2012 on the Management of Addictive Substances.
The Rector’s decision includes several key elements: first, smoking is strictly prohibited in all areas of the LSPR campus, applying to every member of the academic community; second, any violations of this policy will incur strict penalties as outlined in the established rules and regulations of the LSPR Institute; and third, a copy of this decision has been distributed to all community members, highlighting the importance of compliance and collective responsibility in maintaining a smoke-free environment. Implementing a smoke-free environment at the LSPR Institute of Communication and Business marks a significant step towards enhancing the health and quality of life for all individuals on campus. LSPR demonstrates its dedication to fostering a healthier academic atmosphere by promoting a smoke-free policy. The cooperation of every community member is essential in realising this critical initiative, ensuring that LSPR remains a safe and supportive place for learning and growth.
