On Thursday, 20 October 2016, LSPR Jakarta invited Dr. Paul Smith from British Council Indonesia to give a lecture for Performing Arts Communications’ students at Professor Djajusman Auditorium and Performance Hall, Campus B, LSPR Jakarta. The lecture was attended by PAC students from Batch 18 and 19, representatives from British Council Indonesia, as well as Mrs. Prita Kemal Gani, MBA, MCIPR, APR., Mr. Radel Lopez and Ms. Candy Hernandez, M.Si.
It started at 10AM with the Film Screening of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” continued with the opening speech from Ibu Prita Kemal Gani she shared also the long standing relationship between LSPR and British Council. She also talked about the 400th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s Death and the upcoming LSPR theatre festival whose themes are in line with Shakespeare 400th Death Anniversary “Re-live The Shakespeare Spirit.”
After her opening speech, she then invited Dr. Paul Smith on the stage and introduced himself. In his speech, he mainly talked about Shakespeare’s Rosaline, which is a character that he very much admire due to the complexity of the character. He also talked about the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, as well as Shakespeare himself, and how much Dr. Paul Smith admire him.
“I would never be the person I am now if I hadn’t know the word Shakespeare” he quoted. He then ended his speech with a quote he made, “Theater is the only kind of entertainment made from real people, real experience, and real time”.n (Leo/Raka)
