Ethics and Security Tips while doing a Video Conference

Jakarta, video conference has become one of many solutions in communicating during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people are not on board with this media transformation just yet, though. Here are several important things that need attention in doing a video conference.

“These are the tips to maintain ethics and security while doing a video conference. This method of communication is used for meetings, teaching and learning activities, and many more” said Tuhu Nugraha M.M, Digital Business Consultant & Part-Time Lecturer at LSPR.

The first tip in keeping things professional in a video conference is to wear the appropriate and professional clothing, even though you’re doing it at home. The next tip is to avoid multitasking, “this is done so you can be more focused with the topic discussed, so it is better to avoid doing other things while you’re in a video conference”, he said.

Next up is to avoid signing up for accounts with your existing social media or google account, and always check and read through the terms and conditions of the application that you’re using. This is done for the sake of security because there is always a potential breach of your personal security through any applications. “Be careful in what you say even though you’re in a small group”, he asserted. Other than that, always say the name of the person that you are talking to. This helps to inform others on who is talking to who.

Controlling the situation that you’re in and turning off your microphone when you are not speaking, are the last tips that were given by Mr. Tuhu, LSPR Postgraduate Programme Lecturer, Social & Online Media Strategies subject. “Ethics and security in using this type of communication is a new thing. So, it is important to maintain the professionality of an individual”, he said when ending the 8-minute duration video.
