Thursday, August 27, 2015, Research and Community Service Centre held an afternoon discussion with Ekky Imanjaya. The discussion was held from 2:00 to 4:00  p.m. It was attended by students and lecturers who participated talked about the various types of film in Indonesia, and how the evolution from ancient times until the modern era.

Ekky Imanjaya is a lecturer of the Department of Film at Binus International, Bina Nusantara University. His current status as a PhD candidate at the School of Film, University of East Anglia, UK. Ekky also served as guest editor of the special issue of the JournalPlaridel entitled The Bad, The Worse, and The Worst: The Significance of Indonesian Cult, Exploitation and B Movies.

In a monthly discussion this time, Ekky Imanjaya shared topics and Misbar phenomena step on the screen, which is part of theentertainment of the people. “Mobile Cinema” Indonesian version is discussed as the ‘counterculture’ of culture is accepted and recognized; especially for audience in the countryside as part of a subculture. By making observations on the regulation of the film in the New Order era and also literature popular magazines, Ekky tries to explore  why and how to step on the screen and Misbar role inshowing films in Indonesia classical category B, and how popular entertainment form a subculture unique among viewers in countryside.
