27 May 2016, LSPR Jakarta organized an event entitled harnessing compelling opportunities of travel writing with Nivell Rayda held at the Research Center campus C LSPR Jakarta at 14.00 – 15.30. Nivell Rayda is the editor of one of Indonesia’s leading newspaper, The Jakarta Globe. Additionally, Nivell Rayda also a journalist who has made visits to various places in the world. In 2015, he also launched a book titled This Home Was Never Mine which tells the story of a family of religious minorities living in the island of Lombok.
According to Nivell Rayda, before writing we must first determine what we will tell and who will read our story later on. We also need to do some research before we do the traveling, either about the history of the area we are going to visit, access to transportation, costs and accommodation, as well as the operating hours.
In the process of writing, it is important for us to make a key ideas that explain the story as a whole and support it with other ideas that tells about interesting and memorable during traveling.
On this occasion Nivell Rayda also provides a variety of tips on how to make travel writing, such as travel because you love to travel, practice more by experimenting in different angles and different styles, be unique, be consistent, and never give up and never be satisfied.
