Jakarta – LSPR Jakarta in collaboration with Youth of Indonesia (YOI) held a Seminar with the title “Digging Deeper into the Draft Law on Sexual Violence (RUU TPKS)” on Sunday, January 30, 2022. Guided by Mrs. Prita Laura as moderator, this event was filled with by a great speakers who cares about the issue of sexual violence in Indonesia, namely Dr. Edward O. S. Hiariej, S.H., M. Hum; Cinta Laura Kiehl; and Mr. Willy Aditya, S.Fil., M.D.M. This seminar was held in a hybrid manner with only 50 participants allowed to attend in person at the LSPR Jakarta Auditorium.
The event started with the signing of the YOI x LSPR Cooperation MoU represented by Mr. Taufan Teguh Akbari, PH.D as Student Affair of LSPR Jakarta and Mr. Aditya Percaya as Vice President of YOI. Led by Mrs. Prita Laura, the seminar discussion began by discussing the urgency of the Sexual Violence Bill which attracted the attention of many parties. Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights, Prof. Dr, Edward O. S. Hiariej, S.H., M.Hum and Mr. Willy Aditya S.Fil., M.D.M. as a member of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia said that there is a legal vacuum that causes law enforcement officials to be unable to follow up on every report of sexual violence. Furthermore, Cinta Laura also discussed the patriarchal culture that has taken root in Indonesian society.
This seminar also answered participants’ questions regarding the contents of the Sexual Violence Act and its relation to the PKS Bill and education on the issue of sexual violence to the public. The seminar ended with a closing statement from each speaker, one of them from Cinta Laura “A change or revolution does not happen overnight. So let’s win this fight, let’s fight together.” Then continued with the awarding process for the speakers and moderators led by Ms. Mayke Angelica, S.Ikom as the MC of this seminar.
