Jakarta – LSPR News once again held a Webinar by inviting Martha Warta Silaban, M.Si as the speaker. He is an Editor at Tempo.co and an LSPR lecturer. The topic presented was “The Ethics of News Framing”, last Wednesday, May 6.
As the title suggests, Mrs. Martha explained News Framing. It was explained that news framing is how the media portray an event so that it can limit the way audiences interpret the event. In an event, there must be many things that go on at once. The task of the media is to look for which issues are important and which must be informed in advance.
“Sometimes getting good news framing is not easy. One way that can be done is to use News Angle (5W + 1H). That is, when making news, it is better if we aim at the problem from a point of view. So that the purpose and content of the news become clear. Angle or point of view can also help the writer pour out his ideas and can also be easier because it focuses on a matter. So it does not go anywhere “, he explained that afternoon.
He also shared his experience by explaining the news criteria that Tempo had. Namely: warmth, character, magnitude, first time, exclusive, relevance, trend, dramatic, mission, human interest, unique, prestigious, and other angles. News can also include conflict, rumors, offensive comments, or unusual news. Good news also includes news.
Mrs. Martha closed the webinar with the statement, “A journalist must be able to write real stories accurately, based on observations and interviews conducted in a series of ways. We must prioritize news on a more important scale, and don’t forget to use the news angle when making news ”.
