Every week, LSPR Radio brings in depth knowledge regarding autism to its listeners in Autism Talks program. The main characteristics of autism are the difficulties in communicating, and form a relationship with others. These two characteristics often becomes the main reasons why people with autism cannot function properly, or blend, in the society.
In Autism Talks: “Special Friend”, which was aired at May 16 2017, LSPR Radio invites one speaker who have experience in handling, and guiding an autism student of LSPR. Annisa Mahdia Pratiwi, Head of Media Center of LSPR Jakarta, which often called by Ms. Icha by the students, told her memorable experience in educating an autism student named Kouji. Ms. Icha explained how hard it was at the beginning of the program, and how it slowly become a heartfelt and important experience for her. She explained things got easier and more enjoyable when she found out her musical preference are mostly the same with Kouji.
She then added, Kouji’s development has been a very significant one, compared to years ago when she had met him for the first time, and it was all thanks to the enormous support of his parents. At first, Kouji had difficulties in paying attention to the class. But slowly, and patiently, Ms. Icha guided Kouji to pay attention more, until finally, Kouji had graduated and earn his degree. Ms. Icha then explained the whole experience was a very meaningful one, and she would not refuse another offer to educate another student with autism. (Tarrasch)
