One of the STIKOM The London School of Public Relations Jakarta student, Cynthia Sandra Tidajoh trusted by the Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia to participate on the JENESYS Programme 2016.

JENESYS Programme (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths) is a project advanced by the Japanese government from the standpoint of providing a foundation for strong solidarity within Asia through large-scale youth exchange also aimed to promoting mutual understanding and friendly relations. As one of the implementing organizations for this programme, JICE (Japan International Cooperation Center) is an organizations that have the responsible of conducting the programme in cooperation with various local governments, schools, and international exchange organizations in each area. In this batch of JENESYS Programme 2016 that carry out the Economic Partnership focuses on Trade and Investment: Transportation System and Tourism, Indonesia sent 19 participants that consist of the staff from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, National Development Planning Agency, the government bank staff, and students. Besides the ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste and India also take part in this programme.

In 9 days from 24 October 2016-1 November 2016, Cynthia and other participants are invited to see how the development and sophistication of the Japanese transportation, as well as enjoy the beauty of the Japanese cultures by visiting some of the strategic cities such as Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Shin-siro, Tokoname, Kariya, and others, which is a series of such programs. They also got the chance to meet Japanese Government Leaders during the visit to a Government office, leaders of major corporations in Japan as well as interact directly with local communities in Japan.

Cynthia who had also an ASEAN-Indonesia Youth Ambassador 2011 feel very proud and grateful to be again entrusted the task to strengthen the good relations between ASEAN and Japan, by following the JENESYS Programme 2016. This is showned through her enthusiasm in carrying out the tasks along the programme. In several times she also had the opportunity to give a Thank You Speech to the Lecturer in the programme. As the young generation, she believes this programme gives her so many lessons and benefits that can be used as reference for developing Indonesia. The Japanese discipline and time punctuality culture, technological sophistication, and how resilience and productive the elderly from the Japanese society in their work is the good point from Japan that she can bring to help her society development in Indonesia.

At the end of the JENESYS Programme, all the participants had the opportunity to discuss the strategic discussions action plan that they have to do after returning to the home countries. Strengthening the cooperation and interaction with Japan in economic, socio-cultural and other sectors is promising to be improved, not only the “Government to Government” but also ‘People to People’. Besides that the communication between countries and participants with the organizers of the Japanese government and JICE will continue to do.
