We are proud to announce a co-authored publication by Dr. Adam James Fenton- Programme Director Postgraduate Programme and LSPR Master’s student Chrissie Macaraig which has recently been published in the international Scopus-indexed journal from South Korea, The Journal of Territorial and Maritime Studies (JTMS). The article, titled “Analyzing the Causes and Effects of The South China Sea Dispute: Natural Resources and Freedom of Navigation”, begins by examining the role of natural resources in driving this international maritime territorial dispute. This part of the article is based on Chrissie’s research paper which was submitted as her final assessment in our international exam subject, Challenges to Maritime Sustainable Development. The second half of the article presents a legal analysis of the dispute using the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) as a benchmark against which to examine China’s academic and legal maneuvering.
The postgraduate subject Challenges to Maritime Sustainable Development has been developed over the last four years in partnership with Coventry University’s Center for Trust, Peace and Social Relations. This publication is a great example of the high quality and strength of our ongoing relationship with Coventry University as a key international partner in the postgraduate programme at LSPR.
