Jakarta – On Thursday, 14 May 2020, LSPR English Club conducted a webinar from their IGTV about basic techniques of storytelling, especially preparing for competition. Ms. Amarisa Vianca Jasmine, as one of the top 20 quarter finalists for Storytelling Asian English Olympics 2020, shared about her tips and tricks on how to prepare a story for storytelling competition.
She highlighted some important things such as doing research. This is very important because we need to know the time frame that we are given to perform in front of audiences and other technicalities such as whether or not we should copy the script or are there any restrictions, and we need to know this before the technical meeting. Besides that, whether you find your story online or it’s your original story, it will give impact to how many times you can prepare your competition starting from costume and props. Also, find an inspiration. It could be from everything, maybe a movie or song, select one or two concepts then you can elaborate on that. At last, the structure. Give a lot of concern about your story, because what value the most is the story itself. The structure consists of opening, body and closing.
As we know, from the opening, we can grab our audience’s attention, then during the body is the main chunk, where you can introduce the character and their goals in this story. And the last is closing, which is also very important, because in the closing section, all the questions will be finally answered. The fastest way and the best way to do this (Vianca’s opinion) is to present your story to your friends or your family or basically just the first time audience, you need to remind them that they need to give an honest feedback because you need the story to be as engaging and interesting as it can be.
