Jakarta – On July 9 2023, the Literate Your Mind program was created to encourage children in this era’s public speaking and social media. This program was organized by LSPR (London School of Public Relations) and a children’s reading community called Taman Bacaan Perigi. The event began with remarks and appreciation from several important program parties. Then, participants learned a lesson from two LSPR lecturers, namely Mrs. Desy Budi Utami and Mr. Ricky Wattimena.
The first is public speaking material by Ms. Desy. She taught a number of things related to public speaking, including what public speaking is, the purpose of public speaking, and how to be a good influencer.
“Being a good influencer is actually easy, what’s important is that the content can inspire and increase the literacy spirit of young people, my friends…” Mam Desy said to the participants.
Apart from that, she also taught how to express oneself through telling stories and giving good public speaking tips.
“The first Public speaking tips are to understand the material you want to convey, practice continuously, make sure the messages you convey are logical and sequential, and try to turn them on interactively with the audience.”
The second material was delivered by Mr. Ricky Wattimena about “Creating Content.” He showed some data on digital developments in Indonesia, discussed with participants why the internet is important, and taught how to become content creators who have a positive impact on society.
“Being a content creator, you have to have creative ideas and design thinking (making ideas, realizing ideas, experimenting, and evaluating), and have the courage to try.”
After being given the material, participants are welcome to rest for 15 minutes. After the rest, participants joined in a Kahoot game where they were divided into three groups and used one cell phone per group to answer questions. The game progressed for 10 minutes and ended with the announcement of the first and second place winners. The two winners were given prizes by the event organizers. The event ended with a group photo of the participants, resource persons, and all event organizers.
