Jakarta – Friday, 13 May 2022, LSPR held the 1st session of the 4th LSPR OMNI series in collaboration with the Management & Science University, Malaysia. The first session featured Ms. Rozzana Ihsanuddin, Lecturer & Short Course Coordinator in Management & Science University, Malaysia and was moderated by Mr. Riky Ramadani Prabowo, S.St.Par, M.I.S, lecturer from LSPR Communication and Business Institute.

Ms. Rozzana explained about the core of dark tourism where the main concept of dark tourism is the act of tourists travelling to sites of death, tragedy, and suffering. The sites of dark tourism are considered as historical places. But then the idea emerged into a heated discussion, where there are pros and cons on how the sites could be a source of tourism, there are various arguments on whether it is ethical or not.

According to Ms. Rozzana Ihsanuddin, there are 6 majority of arguments on how the dark tourism industry work, it is said that dark tourism exploits human suffering, where sometimes the destination sites may spread misinformation, and considering this digital era, there are some problems with the photo or selfie permission and sometimes the visitor’s intention may lead into a negative intention which may cause another controversion.

These arguments are the one that we must be aware of, in order to generate goodwill for the dark tourism sites. The behaviour of the visitors on site may determine the ethical consideration for dark tourism, it is advised that the host or the site’s promoters sets regulations that could manage the behaviour of the visitors inside the tourism area. It is also suggested that the site of dark tourism is better from the ancient era, so that there will be no family members or ancestors descendants that can be tracked by the visitors.

LSPR OMNI is part of a lecturer exchange programme, an initiative to balance the student’s online and offline academic learning in addressing the “new normal” environment.  LSPR OMNI is similar to LSPR Lecturer Exchange Programme, however due to travel restrictions, we wanted to continue the implementation by making this available online. LSPR OMNI started in 2020 where international lecturers come and teach LSPR students through online classes. This year, LSPR OMNI will be held from 13 May 2022 until 15 July 2022. The distinctiveness of this year’s session of LSPR OMNI is that the sessions are available for all LSPR students without any limitation and some of the sessions will be held offline Prof. Dr. Djajusman Auditorium & Performance Hall in Sudirman Park. We want to reach and invite all LSPR students to join and take learning beyond borders.
