Jakarta – LSPR Runners held a Youth Change Makers webinar on Saturday, July 17, 2021. This webinar is a series of Run for Change events, which will be followed by a virtual run which will be held on July 24-25, 2021. LSPR Runners invites two speakers in this webinar, namely Maria Natasha S.Pd – Educator & Thalassemia Survivor and Nala Amirah – Activist. Through this webinar, the speakers shared their experiences in making changes as a youth.
Maria shared her experience as a Thalassemia Survivor. Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder characterized by the amount of hemoglobin that is less than people in general. Based on her experience, she created the “Thalassemia Survivor” movement. This movement aims to spread awareness about Thalassemia and has a program to help people, especially children who suffer from Thalassemia.
The webinar continued with a session from Nala Amirah. Nala is an activist and founder of Green Welfare Indonesia, an organization that helps disadvantaged and hungry people by providing healthy, plant-based meals. This organization helps them meet the basic nutrition needed by the body while promoting a sustainable eating lifestyle.
Talking about Youth Change Makers, Maria said that anyone can make a change. “You can make a change. Start with yourself,” said Maria. Including during this pandemic, we can start changes by doing activities that can increase immunity so that our bodies stay healthy. Nala added, in her opinion this pandemic has made us know ourselves better. It doesn’t mean that because of the pandemic we have stopped working. We must stay focused and have clear goals in order to achieve what we are targeting in making changes.
