Webinar Series with Coventry University: Leadership During a Pandemic

LSPR International Relations and Partnerships Office held their 2nd Webinar Series with International University Partners with Coventry University on 5 May 2020. The 2nd webinar featured Prof. Mike Hardy, Executive Director for Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations, and International Leadership Association Board Chair who shared his expertise on “Leadership during a Pandemic”. The session was moderated by Dr. Lestari Nurhajati, Head of Journal and Publication at LSPR Communication & Business Institute. The LSPR Webinar Series with International University Partners aims to provide a range of high quality topics from experienced communication professionals during the COVID-19 Pandemic which allows for international learning during the “Stay at Home” period.

Prof. Mike Hardy started the sharing session by discussing the problems leaders in today’s world face and the challenges they face during a pandemic. Prof. Mike continued to elaborate on understanding role and context deliberative action communication followed by the question of whether or not we are using the right concept of leadership. There was an emphasis on leadership through “hosting” which incorporates the role of asking key questions, inviting others to explore challenges, inviting participation, creating spaces for others to fill, and learning every day.

The session came to an end by sharing how leaders must assume obligation and opportunity, be courageous, be creative, and be prepared before and during pandemics that can take place and as a general practice. After the presentation, participants were offered the chance to ask questions relevant to the topic discussed. A total of 107 participants joined the webinar.
